Since periodontal disease is an infectious disease caused by germs and not an auto-immune condition it must be treated by curing the infection that causes it. Once the infection is cured, the symptoms disappear and surgery to rebuild the bone is often not necessary as the body works to heal itself. Nonsurgical periodontal therapy uses antiseptics, antivirals and antibiotics in addition to deep cleaning and special home care techniques to remove the germs that cause the infection and keep them from returning. Testing the germs for their response to specific antimicrobials is also sometimes done.
Nonsurgical treatment is always done in our office before any other periodontal treatment.
All nonsurgical periodontal treatment is supervised by our Periodontist, Dr. Dan Nagler, a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.
